Sustainable Fashion is Everewear

Do you love sustainable fashion and secondhand shopping, but dread the work of the treasure hunt experience? What if there was a way to find clothing that was tailored to your style without the hassle of the hit-or-miss experience in a thrift shop?

Let us introduce you to Everewear (pronounced everywhere), a new way to experience secondhand shopping! Through a unique style quiz, you can have sustainable fashion show up right to your front door. We recently had the privilege of sitting down with Anna Dorris, founder + CEO, to learn all about this revolutionary company.

How did it come about?

With a passion for sustainability and environmentalism, Anna has frequently thrifted clothing, but would leave feeling exhausted and overwhelmed as she never knew what pieces she would find. Seeing as this is not a viable option for many people, she tried to find a solution, and instead found a gap in the marketplace.

At the beginning of 2021, she took her new idea to Jag Start (IUPUI’s version of Shark Tank).  This introduced her to several of her current advisors who have been transformational for her business, and it ended with a pitch competition that connected her to Elevate Ventures, where she won $20,000 for her start up! These were the pieces she needed to get off the ground and run with her vision.

So how does it work?

To order a box, you simply fill out a style quiz to make sure the items are tailored to your unique style.  Then, as you wait for your box to arrive, the magic behind the scenes begins!

Anna takes the information from your style profile and goes through her inventory to design a box of 6 items that you are destined to fall in love with (we can totally attest to this after ordering our first box).  She originally took the approach of a personal shopper, visiting secondhand shops to pick out items for clients, but she has now built up her inventory so she is able to style directly from her apartment*.  Anna starts with 10 items that she thinks will work, and then narrows it down to 6 from there.

*Please note: If Anna does not have items that fit your style profile in her inventory, she will scour local secondhand shops to curate your box.  This ensures that Everewear fits every client, regardless of size or style.

Everewear is currently in the process of building out an algorithm that will collect data points on each piece of inventory, making this process much smoother.  Each item that comes in will collect data points based on size, brand, measurements, target age range, style category, etc.  The algorithm will collect the input from each style quiz and act as an initial filter to output the best 30 recommendations for the client’s box, allowing Anna to easily go in and pick the 6 items that will create the most polished outcome for her client!

What have you learned so far?

Over the summer, Anna was able to test her concept through her first 100 boxes, seeing if she was able to successfully connect with her client’s style.  Her biggest takeaway has been learning the importance of the first box.

“If I miss the mark on the first box, there’s just this instant disappointment so I feel like I’m having to work backwards after that.”

In other words, if the client loves their first box, they will likely buy another one and help spread the word about the mission, experience and excitement of the Everewear concept.

Anna has also expanded her horizons as she learned about inventory management and the backend of running a business.  As a Finance and Economics major at IUPUI, she has enjoyed seeing all sides of her business as it continues to grow.

Where do you see Everewear in the next 3 years?

Since it has just taken off, Anna’s goal is to have completed one thousand boxes by May 2022.  She would love to expand nationally, and include men’s and kid’s clothing as well!  Additionally, Everewear is testing out buying clothes from users as a way to increase their inventory.

It was an HONOR getting to know Anna better and learn more about the heart behind Everewear!  Anna is a woman with a mission and not only took this dream of hers and built it out of her college apartment, but has dreamed up an innovative way to shop more sustainably!  We are so excited to have a front row seat as we watch this fashion revolution take place.

“It’s been such an exciting journey!  This is my first time doing entrepreneurial things and I definitely feel like this is what I’m meant to do.”
